Good morning! I hope you’ve eased into your week and that Monday was good to you. I’ve been meaning to write this post for a really long time… the topic has been on my calendar several times but has been switched around with other things. Today we’re talking about Pantone’s 2016 Colors of the Year!
By now you have most likely heard all about Rose Quartz and Serenity. This is the first time that Pantone has released two colors of the year, as a married inspirational pair.

I love that you can find these colors in nature — think sunsets (especially of the Arizona variety), flowers and other plants, and leaves like you see above.
Rose Quartz is such a pretty blush pink, don’t you think? The best blush.
And then there’s Serenity, which is sort of icy but evokes a calm feeling and reads intensely ethereal.
Pantone made a cultural statement of sorts upon releasing these two colors, commenting on the world’s need for peace, equality, and balance. It’s interesting that something as simple and yet complex as color can create a platform for a discussion about things that our world faces these days.
Bringing these colors to life in your own home… Use paint or another form of wall covering for a floor-to-ceiling application; furniture if you’re okay with a pricier investment; or accessories if you’re just looking to celebrate these trending colors without making a big design decision. Personally, pillows are my favorite way to try out a popular color.
If you’re looking for other colors to pair with Rose Quartz and Serenity, look for greens, purple, yellow, a variety of pinks (you really can’t go wrong there), and deep browns. One of my design teachers always said that purple is such a versatile color because you can pretty much pair anything with it. When in doubt, pair these colors with purple.
I hope you have a great Tuesday!
