When I was in design school, there was a whole unit on ‘basic design’ where my instructor taught us a lot. One thing that was mentioned and discussed at length was mirror placement! Basically, as a designer the thought process is that we want to elevate beauty, and that means that ‘what reflects in the mirror counts.’
If I could put this rule into one sentence, it would be this — don’t reflect your ceiling fan in a mirror. Think interesting wallpaper or wall texture, a pretty light fixture, artwork… Whatever will add beauty to your space.
Doorways can be difficult — especially in these powder bathrooms. Sometimes these views are lovely, though. This mirror reflects that gorgeous library.
Window treatments! Another great detail to reflect.
I love tall plants (orchids are my favorite!) for reflected height, and pendant lights are pretty to look at. They also will double the amount of light you get in your space.
A mirror image is always a cool way to showcase dimension and sort of create a fun trick of the eye. This bathroom is full of cerused oak and is pretty amazing.
I will leave you with this, because it basically cannot get more beautiful or epic than this reflection here. Expert mirror placement and chandeliers that appear to go on and on…
