Halloween In the Foyer: Part 2

Hey there, everyone.  Happy First Day of Fall!

It’s been about a week since I last logged into this blog, and we have been really busy.  We were in New Jersey for a long weekend for my husband’s Grandpop’s 90th birthday celebration!

We stayed with Greyson’s Aunt Lulu and this is her backyard!  Yes, she lives on a lake, and it was glorious.

There was a big party for Greyson’s Grandpop on Sunday, and I got to meet a ton of my husband’s relatives that I had never met before.  Other than the party, there was a lot of hanging out with family, and a TON of eating.  Because they’re Italian, lol.

We slept with the window open every night and listened to the forest buzzing.  It was so awesome.  I can’t wait to go back!

I have some more pictures of the foyer, which is pretty big and has a lot of areas that can be decorated.  I showed you the decorations near the door earlier last week.  Today we’ll look the other way!

Here’s the foyer table decorated with all sorts of Halloween-y goodness.

The theme is clearly spooky black and red.  Witches’ brew, a skull, red books…

Feathers, and an owl!

But wait!  Last week, my mother-in-law came home with this skeleton and skeleton dog.

I kind of love them, lol.

Fallifying Your Home

I looked it up, and ‘Fallifyingis a word, lol.  We’re talking simple ways that you can bring Fall into your home in order to make the most of September, my personal favorite transition month!  🙂  The morning air turned today, and when I took Kuma outside at about 4:45 AM, there was a slight chill in the air.  It was exciting!  That’s part of the reason I love this time of the year so much…  There’s so much promise — cold weather, more frequent family time, and of course, pumpkin everything!

Some of you may be waiting to decorate for Halloween until next month, so I thought I’d share some simple things that you can do around your home to switch out your Summer decor and make it a little bit warmer.

Bring in some warm-colored flowers, and throw them into a basket instead of a pot.  The basket will add a layer of texture that is perfect for colder months.

These velvet pumpkins are everywhere these days, but I love them so much.  They are the first things to come out at my in-laws’ house every year.  And you can get them lots of different places — AJ’s, HomeGoods, etc.

Throw some gourds, pine cones, and kale in a bowl for a quick centerpiece.  Take out the kale, and it’s perfect for day-to-day decor.  I love the white-washed colors in this display.

I’m a fan of using antlers as decor pretty much any time of the year, but especially during the Fall and Winter months, I love ’em!  How pretty is this idea?  I would love to see this sitting on a side or foyer table.

And how about this for cute and easy?

Of course, pinecones are always an effortless choice, too.

Halloween In the Foyer

Hello!  I hope you all had a great Monday and that you were able to sort of ease into the week.  I’m back today with a little bit more of our Halloween decor.  We’re taking a peek into the Foyer at just a couple of Halloween touches.  There’s an entry table in here, too, but that will be for another post.  🙂

I love that cute little Halloween pillow.  🙂  And the orange looks nice with the pattern on the bench!

And what Foyer is complete without a place to park your broom?  How else are we supposed to get around?!

Pivoting Doors & Windows

Hey there, and Happy Monday!  I hope you had a great weekend.

There are a lot of things that I see on repeat when I’m perusing Pinterest — tons of greige interiors, herringbone floors (a classic!), and, of course, stripes.  But something along the more unusual line that I have started noticing are gorgeous pivoting doors and windows!

Have you seen these?  Insanely beautiful!!

A more modern-cabin approach.

Crazy interesting lines on this one.

It seems there is no end to the perfectly sleek simplicity of these doors.  The more I see of them, the more obsessed I get.

Halloween Outside

Happy Weekend, friends!  I thought I would pop in to share the little bit of Halloween decorations that are outside since it is a bright, sunny day!  🙂  It’s just a couple of little touches, but they’re fun.

A giant fuzzy spider makes its way up the side of the house, attaching itself to a wall sconce!  Watch out — he sure is scary.

Here’s the front door with a warning sign.

Marked up with a silver Sharpie marker, made pretty with a bow and some tulle, yet still spooky and festive.  I love when Halloween decor has that balance!

Next week I’ll take you inside!  🙂

Fifth Wall Friday

Happy Friday, everyone!  I hope you had a great week, and that it started off with a day to yourself on Labor Day!  This has felt like a really long week for me, so I am looking forward to having a quieter weekend and focusing on work and family.  It’s always a balance, isn’t it?!

Continuous molded ceilings all throughout this home.  The stark difference in styles — ultra-sleek modern and completely classic — is so interesting, unusual, and beautiful.  Polar opposites, they lend well to one another — old meets new, that sort of thing.  This is by far my favorite design juxtaposition out there.

Fall Nesting: Organized Pantry

Hey there, friends!  If you tuned in to last night’s post, you know what’s coming your way in the next several weeks.  I’m so excited to share all sorts of fun posts with you, and I know we’re going to have fun.  🙂

The season of excess is upon us…  And because of that, the beginning of Fall for me is really about organizing, clearing out, and layering with all the fun stuff like the decorations, new finds, etc.  Since you know we are not in our own home at this point (we are at my in-laws’ house), this house is big and is kept really well organized.  But everyone has cabinets, shelves, etc. that can use some sprucing, and that’s what these Fall Nesting posts will be about — nesting, or preparing for Fall, by organizing!

My first stop was the Pantry, and I have to tell you that this pantry is much larger than most so it can hold lots of other things besides food — small kitchen appliances, bulk or extra items, additional glassware, etc.  Those things I tried to just sort of consolidate, move around, and make a little extra room for.  It’s food that we all have in our pantry, after all, so this post will generally focus on how to organize that!

Five Tips For an Organized Pantry

1. Baskets are your best friend.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 6.18.25 AM

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 6.19.54 AM

Whether wicker or plastic — it does not matter!  When I organized our linen closet back at our old apartment, I went to the Dollar Store and found a bunch of different-sized plastic baskets.  My mother-in-law just happens to have a lot of the nice-quality Longaberger baskets, so I used those.

2. Keep friends with friends — group your items!

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 6.22.39 AM

You might be thinking to yourself — DUH!  But if everything has a home, a section, a shelf, whatever — it should always have a place.  Don’t put the cookies with the pasta.  Don’t put the coffee with the canned goods.  Remember: Friends with Friends.

3. Chalkboards are awesome schedule-keepers.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 6.23.20 AM

There are five of us living in this house right now, and this is where we keep track of who is feeding the pups.  Also featured is a weekly quote that my father-in-law puts up — generally funny ones.  All you True Detective fans out there are having fun with this one.  🙂

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 6.24.06 AM

If you have the counter space, chalkboards are fun for decoration, too.  And you don’t need a wall to hang a chalkboard, people!  Hang one on a door with a command hook, or use a wreath hanger.

4. Labels are key.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 6.25.24 AM

I picked these gift tags up at Target months ago in the Dollar Spot.  I just used a silver Sharpie marker and wrote what belonged in each basket.  Remember: If everything has a place, everything should easily have a home.  There are so many ways that you can label — I bet there’s even printable versions of tags like these that are free.  Check Pinterest!

5. Finally, this tip is important:  Before you go out to buy more groceries, check your pantry for what can be consolidated or tossed.  I’m not saying you should toss a bunch of good food, but chances are that if you don’t do this often, there is plenty in your pantry that can go.  Straighten up your pantry before you bring a bunch of new food in — that way, everything has a place to go right when you get home from the store.  You should do this with your fridge, too!

What are some other tips you have for keeping an organized pantry?

It’s About to Get Spooky

That’s right, friends…  It’s about to get spooky up here in this blog.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 6.11.48 AMPottery Barn

No, that is not my house that is pictured here, but I will say that the Halloween decor is up and it looks awesome!  I’m so looking forward to the next several weeks where I will be sharing the decorations, some DIY projects and table settings, and some recipes with you!  Also included will be showcasing posts about other Halloween and Fall decor, more projects and ideas, and I’m here to tell you that I’ve got the organizing itch, people!  It’s a disease and it’s a good one — and I’m definitely planning on sharing some transformations.  🙂

It’s going to be a fun holiday season.  This is arguably the best time of the year to be a blogger, and it starts right now!

Well, not right now.  Because I have to go to bed.  And only my mom is going to read this right now (hi mom!).  But…like, tomorrow.

Happy Labor Day!

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 6.08.47 AM

And I, for one, can’t wait!  🙂

Happy Labor Day, friends!  I hope you have had a great, relaxing day, and that you are ready for tomorrow, because in my book, tomorrow officially starts Fall!

And I’ve got exciting insider news…  The Halloween decor.  It went up today.

Try to contain yourselves.  Heh.

Lots of fun posts coming in the next little bit.  But first…one more sleep.
