Living Room Seating

Happy Week of Thanksgiving, everyone!  I am so excited for this week and also for Friday because I will be putting up Christmas!  Rocking out to Christmas music in my jammies, trimming the tree, ignoring the Black Friday craziness.  This will be a special Christmas for us as it is the first Christmas in our first home.  So this week will be full of decorating, zhushing, and festiveness.

I relocated our ghost chairs from the kitchen and got some awesome new chairs for such a steal for that room, which I will show you later this week!  I put one ghost chair in the office, and one in the living room.  I love the additional seating — it’s very convenient!  Especially since the sofa is a slipcover that is lovely but gets messed up easily, so if I’m the only one home, this gives me another place to sit without disturbing the sofa.  😉  I’l probably get over that, but for now I just love when it looks relaxed but not too relaxed, ha!

The table was on clearance from HomeGoods and I just couldn’t say no.  At this point we are done buying furniture for the house…we will be waiting for Christmas.  The living room is more or less put together at this point but there are a few things that I want in order to complete it.  All in good time.  🙂

I love orchids.  I think they are my absolute favorite kind of plant that there is.  Trader Joe’s has them for a really inexpensive price and they are usually all very healthy-looking.  My father-in-law is a plant guy and he says he always gets his orchids from there.  The top of this table is marble and so is the coaster, so that works!  The candle is just a simple Glade Apple Cinnamon candle.  Smells so good!

Since we moved in right in the middle of the Fall season, I really haven’t done any Fall decorating.  That little pumpkin sits in the corner and it’s so cute.  There’s a face on the other side but I like it plain!  I think it is from Jim Shore?  My mom-in-law gave it to me when she was clearing out some Fall decorations.

Other little Fall touches include a bowl of acorns lovingly plucked from New Jersey by my Aunt Lulu and a faux fur blanket from Restoration Hardware that was a Christmas gift a few years ago — so cozy!

One more view of this new little spot.  🙂

Have a great Monday, everyone!

Plants In Baskets

It’s almost Friday — and almost Thanksgiving!  🙂  I’m so excited, as there is so much to look forward to, and I am in full-on nesting mode and having a blast.  I was perusing the clearance aisles of HomeGoods the other day and found a large basket on super discount — it was only $12.  I knew just what I was going to do with it!

I love that the basket is dark and adds a new texture to the room.  You really can’t have enough baskets, people.  Corralling dog toys, shoes!, odds and ends, receipts, napkins… I can think of about a million ways to use baskets, and I bet you can, too.  But this was a new way to use a basket for me — and I love it!

The poinsettia adds that touch of red that I was told every room needs when I was in design school.  😉 I’m not sure how long these are supposed to live, but I hope it lasts through the season.  I’ve been good about watering it, but not over-watering it, so we will see.

This got me thinking about baskets and plants as a pair… I see this everywhere — Pinterest, design magazines, catalogs…  And I see it in different styles.  Ultra modern aesthetics usually use a more saggy or casual basket, and with traditional vignettes, I see a lot of structured baskets.  But that doesn’t mean you can’t break the rules!  Do it — I dare you!

Our New Adventure

When I started this blog about two and a half years ago, we had just moved into my in-laws’ house in order to save money for our own home.  We didn’t think it was going to take as long as it did to accomplish our goal, but guys…we bought a house, and we moved in over the weekend.  It is truly a dream come true and it happened so fast — we went out one day to look at one house, and it ended up being The One.

We moved in on our five-year wedding anniversary, which was such a gift that we both could share.  My husband already did a bunch of home improvement projects and I zhushed — it was pure bliss.  😉  With a little stress, of course.  But mostly bliss.

Together as a couple, we truly found our faith over the past several months and created a strong bond with our God, and we are all the better for it.  It was an amazing experience to go through as a couple and I am so, so thankful.

SO, we’ve got a ton of fun little projects to do and things to get (all eventually), but I thought I’d show you just a little bit of the house today.

My mom brought us that pretty poinsettia on the day we started moving things over.  I love it!

The entertainment center is from Ikea.  Lots of great storage — I’ve got some candle sticks and vases in the bottom drawer.

The slip cover for the sofa is from Sure Fit and I highly recommend it if you want to cover a sofa and not buy a new one.  We got the look we wanted for just a little more than $100.  The pillows are from HomeGoods, of course.  😉

I changed up my little vignette that I wrote about on the blog a few months ago — layering a lucite tray with my DIY marble tray.  A silver bowl holds my favorite rocks and the seashell that Grey collected for me on our beach trip back in June.  And aren’t those coasters cool?!  Marble with an agate center — HomeGoods for $7.99.  I couldn’t believe it!

The kitchen is a work in progress much like everything else, but I love it.  We hung the chandelier that we bought from Ikea and I’m expecting four chairs next week – I got them for a great deal and need extra seating so I can actually have people over for dinner.  😉

I hope you’re having a great Tuesday!  I’m off to work and then I have a feeling I will be spending my evening sorting through the garage, ha!
