Halloween Table Inspirations

Good morning to you!  I shared a little Halloween table setting inspiration on Monday, courtesy of my mom-in-law ;-), but I wanted to dig a little deeper and find some more fun tabletop inspo.  One of my favorite things to do with any inspiration picture is to really analyze it for what speaks to me.  I take those pieces, and I kind of discard the rest from my brain.  That’s why it’s sometimes fun for me to look at a vignette that has A LOT going on.  I typically don’t decorate that way, but I find the pieces and parts that I like and then do what I want.  😉

Northern Arizona Fall

This past weekend, Grey and I spent a good amount of time up North.  One of the best parts about living in Arizona is that cooler temperatures, forests, and quaint towns are just a short drive out of the city.  We spent time in Flagstaff and Prescott and I was surprised to realize that I don’t ever remember being anywhere and seeing the leaves changing color before.  I’ve seen quintessential Fall in photos, but I don’t think I have ever seen it in person.  It was really amazing.

We stayed at The Inn at 410, our favorite place pretty much ever.  If you ever have a reason to go to Flagstaff, there is no better place to stay.  It’s an adorable B&B in the perfect location — walking distance to downtown, right next door to Brix (amazing restaurant) and Carriage House Antiques.

We spent time in Prescott, too.  The temperatures were slightly warmer there but perfect for walking around.  We explored lots of antique shops, spice shops, and popped into Superstition Meadery where we had some great tastes and brought home a couple of bottles.

It’s kind of funny…  I felt like this was my first time experiencing a real Fall.  Yellow leaves dancing in the wind, Fall flowers and pumpkins everywhere in the shops, Fall menus with local ingredients in the restaurants…  Pretty much bliss, people.  🙂

Simple & Classic Halloween Table Setting

Good morning, friends!  Welcome to Monday.  I hope you all had an awesome weekend.  Ours was great and kind of a whirlwind — we had lots of plans every single day.  Sometimes that is fun, though.  🙂  It’s all about balance!

I took a bunch of photos of my in-laws’ Halloween decor a couple of weekends ago and I can’t wait to share them with you.  I thought we’d ease into it with a little Halloween table inspiration…

When my mom-in-law showed me this, I thought it was brilliant!  She bought those paper bats at Target, and then just layered and layered.

She has had those web-like placemats for years, and those made a great base for the setting.  They are kind of rubbery and are really versatile.  A red folded napkin, a red feather, ornate silverware, and simple white dishes really showcase great balance.

Have a great rest of your day!  🙂  See ya back here tomorrow.

DIY Creepy Crawly Halloween Wreath

As soon as Target put out the Halloween things in the Dollar Spot, I was all over it.  I found a nice size unpainted wooden bat, and the idea for this wreath was dreamed up almost entirely in one thirty minute Target trip.

I need to post this disclaimer, though — For this wreath, initially I used hot glue.  It is important to let everything on the wreath settle overnight before hanging it — I didn’t the first time, and things fell of of it.  And another disclaimer — I hot glued the spiders to the wreath and because they are pretty smooth on the back, a lot of them fell off.  You’ll want to use E6000 for all gluing — especially if you live in a hot climate.

So guys…this is what we are making.  Put your crafting hat on!

Supplies Needed:

-Grapevine wreath (I used a 24″)

-Wooden bat (Target Dollar Spot)

-Paint sponge brushes

-Picture hooks

-Floral wire

-Black craft paint

-Black glitter paint

-1-2 bags of creepy crawlies (Target Halloween section)

-Hot glue gun and glue sticks (for moss only)

-Not pictured: E6000 — don’t use hot glue like I did for anything but the moss!

Glue your picture hooks to the corners of the bat.  You will need 2.

Turn the bat over and paint the edges of the bat with the black craft paint.  His face was the most difficult part — I didn’t have smaller brushes so I smudged on a bunch of paint with my finger.  I also smushed the brush into the crevices and just tried to coat him.

Then paint the front of the bat.  I did two coats.

Once the bat dries, brush over the top with black glitter craft paint.  This will give him a nice shimmer.  🙂  He’s a fancy bat!

Next you’re going to wire Mr. Bat into the wreath using the picture hooks.  Cut off about 5 inches of floral wire, then loop it through the hook and wrap around some of the twigs in the wreath.

Start adding your spiders, snakes, and other creepy crawlies.  I didn’t bother gluing the wormy-type creatures.  Those I just tucked underneath twigs in order to make it look like they were crawling through.  Glue the spiders, though.  Put a spider on each side where the floral wire is to conceal.

Next, add moss in clumps.  You are fine to use a hot glue gun for this part — I haven’t had any moss fall off of my wreath.  Add some spiders on top of the moss.

Let me know if you end up making this, too!  🙂  I would love to see.  This took me about 3-4 hours, just FYI.  It can be done in an afternoon.

Pretty Outdoor Halloween Decor

Hey guys, happy Monday!  🙂

In past Halloween posts, I’ve mentioned my love for pretty Halloween decor.  I like my decorations to be slightly spooky but nothing really gross or cheesy — more on the elegant side.  Tomorrow I’m going to share the Halloween wreath that I made for our front door, but I thought I’d start today with some outdoor vignettes that have me feeling all kinds of inspired.  Many of these photos are styled shoots that have a lot in them; but I see these images as an opportunity to take what you love from them and then make it your own.  If you like the more is more feel, then do that, and if you are a less is more person, then images like some of these are great starting points.

Happy October!

Happy October! {Details Blog}

Hi friends!  Happy October to you!  🙂

Where did the month of September even GO?!  I have been working a lot and so this little blog has taken a bit of a backseat.  I do have some fun Halloween posts planned for this month and I have been working away on my decor, so I’m looking forward to sharing that soon.

The weather has been cooling down significantly in the mornings lately and it’s been so nice to have our windows open and let our house breathe!  Can’t wait for cool nights, too.  And then cool days.  😉

I hope you have an awesome Sunday and first day of October.  Be present and enjoy!

Small Bathrooms That Pack a Punch

When it comes to bathrooms, sometimes the smaller they are, the more fun you can have!  Patterned wallpaper, bold lighting, interesting fixtures — these are all things that make a small bathroom punchy.  Get smart with storage, remember that what reflects in the mirror counts, and show off your design sensibilities and personality in these small spaces!

Highland Yard Vintage: The Inspired Home – Fall Edition

Over the weekend I celebrated Fall in all sorts of fun ways!  😉  I went to another Highland Yard Vintage event, this time their Fall edition, and it did not disappoint!

I absolutely love the gorgeous layered displays, the vintage pieces mixed with “junk” objects, and of course the beautiful Fall things that just make my heart sing this time of year.  🙂  I did find some treasures — some adorable mini squash that I can’t wait to use for November Fall decor, and a solid brass swan figurine to go with the two that my Gramma left for me.  That was a pretty magical find!  I felt like she was there with me.

Inside of the antique store that Highland Yard Vintage shares a location with (Merchant Square Antiques), I found a large silver tray that I am using with my Halloween decor, and a pretty ‘lil cloche that is just like this!  So excited to use that for some fun vignettes.

Anyway, if you’re local to Arizona, Highland Yard Vintage is not to be missed, and I have an absolute ball every time I go.  To see my photos of last month’s event, head on over here.
