Comfort Food

Last night’s dinner — a pretty presentation.

Comfort food is one of my favorite food categories, and last night’s dinner will be earmarked as one of my new favorites.  My mother-in-law cooked, and the meal was cheesy polenta with sauteed greens and two sunny-side up eggs layered on top.  A hot, decadent meal that still packs nutritional value, this was a treat!

If there’s one thing I have learned about food in the last eight or so years, it’s that presentation goes a really long way.  Simple care in how your food is arranged on your plate can elevate even the easiest thing — whether it is putting your bagel on a real plate in lieu of a paper one, or creating meals that you look at and say to yourself, “That’s pretty.”  It’s true what they say — you eat with your eyes first!  I appreciate pretty presentation so much and I try to make an effort with whatever I’m eating to make it appeal to more than just one or two of my senses.

Fashion Friday: Ageless Beauty

This week, Vogue wrote up an article about how Celine chose Joan Didion as their new ‘poster girl.’

First of all, there’s no denying how fabulous she looks — she is ageless, not chic for her age, but the epitome of chic at any age.

This got me thinking about aging and the fact that there are so many women around me who are exhibiting ageless beauty and who are really role models and my ‘poster girls’ for loving who you are, and looking amazing while doing it.

Have a great weekend!

A Fall Wedding

Well, it’s hard to believe, but today is my three-year wedding anniversary!  It has been a great year, the best one yet, and we are so happy.  In honor of the day, I’m going to share some of the decor from our wedding!

For those who don’t know, we were married at a little coffee shop in the small town of Carefree.  In order to make sure that we could pull this off, we did hire a wedding planner for the logistical side of things and also the set-up.  But the design was a labor of love — with items and time donated by friends and family, lots of Pinterest-scouring, and figuring out ways to accomplish the look we wanted on a budget!

These signs were made by my sweet brother — he is quite the artist!  The chalkboards were purchased from Hobby Lobby, and the stands are from HomeGoods.  We opted out of a sit-down dinner and instead had a buffet with heavy appetizers.  We worked with a great catering company and they created a really diverse menu.

Our theme was vintage-inspired, with lots of lace, silver accents, and pops of mustard yellow.  The wedding photos are of our grandparents and great-grandparents, as some have parted from this earth and could not be with us on the day.

The tables were rented from a vendor and were wood with benches along either side.  The lace runners were all ordered from Etsy!  We had different styles and sizes for each table.  Candles, vases, etc. were zhushed by my mom or purchased from JoAnn’s or another craft store.

Our favors were little jars of my mom’s famous homemade cranberry sauce…just in time for Thanksgiving.  I still can’t believe she did this for me.  She packaged them up so cute while I was freaking out and having many a Bride-Zilla moment as the day neared; and we had a stamping party at my cousin’s house to make the little tags.  It was really fun.

This was the little sign we had near the guest book.  My sister-in-law donated her time and efforts to designing our wedding invitation, and also a custom logo.  We used it on everything!

Our cake was on the smaller side but we had plenty more on a sheet cake in the kitchen!  I really wanted it to be frosted rustically, and our baker did just that!  The “We Do” birds were also an Etsy find, and the flowers were added from extras that we had.

As the night turned chilly, we had several baskets of these fleece blankets around that were welcome to guests.  These were purchased from Walgreens, I think, and tied with pretty ribbon!

There were many of these mini chandeliers hanging from the trees.  They were donated by my mother-in-law, and they also made an appearance at my sis-in-law’s wedding the year before!

And finally, at the end of the night, we had a sparkler send-off that was really awesome.  This was a table that was set up all night, so our peeps could be ready when the time came!

I am so excited to be starting this journey of a new blog, a new space to call my own; a place I can write about all that inspires me and things that I hope will inspire you, too.

A little bit about me…  I am an interior designer and I am very much in love with this industry.  It is so much fun to design spaces that work with and for clients, and it is an evolving process that is really rewarding, and also very important!  I am married to a wonderful husband and am surrounded by the most amazing family.  We have one child who happens to be furry, and his name is Kuma.  He is sure to make some appearances on this blog (that’s him in the photo above)!  We currently live at my in-laws’ house — we are saving for a home of our own and my husband’s parents were so generous and opened their home to us until we are ready.  That being said, any photos you see of my space is really, truly, their beautiful home; however the decor is to-die-for so I can’t help but share — espcially the holiday decor!  🙂

We’re embarking on the most wonderful time of the year… in fact, I think we are already in the midst of it!  With Fall upon us and Winter fast approaching, there is going to be plenty of Fall nesting to do around here.  I hope you enjoy your time at Details, and be sure to let me know of any topics you would like to see.  You can always e-mail me — I would love to hear from you.

Finally, I’m so glad that you’re here.  We’re going to have fun.
