Homemade Houswarming

I am the first one to admit that when it comes to housewarming parties, I am one to run to the store, grab a bottle of wine and a gift bag, and call it good.  But there are so many cute ideas for DIY housewarming gifts that are so much more thoughtful and that, if I had more time, I would probably think to do.  Since weekends are the party-centric day variety of the seven-day week, I thought we could look at some cute housewarming gift ideas today, on a Saturday.  🙂

I love this one because it covers all of your bases — fancy soap, towels, a plant, and a basket.  Nothing is superfluous — all of these things truly do warm a house.

A little bit of breakfast for the next morning — this could be dropped off while your friends are moving for them to enjoy the next day when they are settling in.  And the baked goods don’t have to be homemade — there are a lot of pretty breakfast pastry options to choose from at nicer grocery stores.

This is a really cute idea — basically all of the things that you need as far as the hardware store goes, right when you move in, thus eliminating a late-night trip or two to Home Depot.

Fashion Friday: Get Up and Go

At least one day a week, my husband and I go out for coffee and bagels at our local A.J.’s in the morning.  We sit, we talk, we flirt — it’s something I look forward to every week.  We also usually just wake up, brush our teeth, and go.  I admire those women who can put themselves together enough to look like yeah, they’re relaxed and in a morning running-around outfit, and yeah, they’ll probably change later when they’re going to work or lunch with a friend… But they’re still put together.  I won’t lie — I usually put on some form of sweatpants or haggard workout gear and call it good.  But the women in the photos in this post have me a little more inspired for my bagel-coffee run.

Wood-Planked Ceilings

Oh, the beauty of a wood-planked ceiling.  Is there anything in home design that adds that same impact of texture?  If there is, I don’t think I have met it yet.

French-Inspired Living Rooms

Good morning!  I hope you all had a really great weekend.

Several weeks ago, I posted about French-inspired nurseries.  Today, I was inspired by this photo to showcase French-inspired living rooms.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 1.04.03 AMMILIEU

It is very apparent by what I post that I love neutral interiors.  I can’t help myself!  There’s something so fresh and sophisticated about a neutral space.

This room’s got a rustic-French vibe.  I love the fun green topiaries.

There’s something very Marie-Antoinette about this room, don’t you think?  🙂

I love the drama that the dark settee and footstools add to this space.  And there is so much texture here!

Last-Minute Valentine’s Day Projects

I really should have posted these Valentine’s Day projects last week, but my day job was in full force, and I got distracted.  Plus, there’s the added element of the fact that because we aren’t in our own space, I didn’t decorate for Valentine’s Day this year!  I don’t usually do much, anyway.  Last year I made a little V-Day mantle on top of a bookshelf with a playing card garland and some rose petals in votives.  It was simple and cute.  I did go all out with the meal, though.  My hubby and I decided that instead of gifts we would spend the money on a meal that I would create for us, and it was one of my most favorite Valentine’s Days with him yet.  We had bacon-wrapped filets, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, and the best strawberry goat cheese salad with a bacon dressing.  So good.

This post is just a round-up, much like yesterday’s treats post, of ideas I have seen for Valentine’s Day decor.  There’s still time to get one or two of these projects done!

Valentine’s Day Treats

I am sad to say that so far this February, I have not made any Valentine’s Day treats.  That’s got to change this week!  I need to make something.  There are so many ideas that have caught my eye on Pinterest and around the internet and other blogs.  Passing some inspiration over to you today.

Marsala: Interior Design

A week or so ago, I posted about Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year, Marsala, pertaining to fashion.  Today, I thought we could take a look at this pretty color in design.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 12.27.47 AM

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 12.28.16 AMThe Scout Guide

I love this color so much because it is not one that only works with certain design styles.  Here we see a pretty traditional kids’ room with variations of the color throughout.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 12.29.10 AMHouse Beautiful

And then, in the same breath, we have a more contemporary kids’ room using the same variation of color.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 12.30.02 AMStyle Me Pretty

An easy, non-committal way to bring this color into your space is with a rug.  Especially if you want a graphic print.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 12.30.58 AMHouse Beautiful

This room packs a big punch, but I love it for that.  Marsala toile is upholstered on the walls, furniture, and, most likely, the window treatments.

Another non-permanent way to implement this color — flowers!  These look so pretty in this neutral office.

A Marsala sofa is definitely a bold choice, but in this room, it is a lasting staple.

There’s something about this color that looks incredibly beautiful with brass/gold accents.

A great application of color.  That white is bright and grounded so beautifully.

Chairish Styleboard

About a week ago, I was contacted by a really sweet gal named Holly about possibly participating in a posting event for the company she works for, Chairish.  Chairish is new to me, but I am so thrilled that I found out about it.  It is a curated online store for vintage and used furniture, home accessories, jewelry, etc.  They also carry a huge selection of rugs, all of which are super unique and really beautiful.  They have the most incredible things, and I had a blast perusing the shop — there was hardly anything that I wouldn’t want for my own home.

Holly asked if I would select a rug from a file that she sent me containing some really amazing ones, and then create a room around it.  Knowing how much I love making styleboards, I couldn’t say no.  🙂

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 12.21.38 AM

This is the rug I chose.  The deep blues and turquoises really drew my attention, and immediately I was inspired.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 12.22.23 AM

I also found this sofa on the Chairish website, and I love it’s traditional lines and linen-y white color.  I thought it would be a pretty mix with the more contemporary vibe that the rug lends.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 12.22.59 AM

And then, the clouds opened up and the angels starting singing, because I found this chair.  Perhaps the most perfect chair for this rug.  This traditional chair is updated with super-modern fabric and piping in a contrasting color.  The perfect balancing piece for my room.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 12.23.33 AM

And here we have it.  🙂  For the furniture, I kept it all pretty traditional with touches of the modern turquoise color.  The legs all have a little bit in common with one another.  And I loved how that console table mimics the squares on the rug — perfect three-dimensional design!

For accessories, I pulled some blues out of the rug that I thought worked and were pretty.  And brass metal accents give this living room an updated, contemporary feel while still being a nice old-European throwback.  I tried to blend different styles, textures, and eras for a really well-rounded, collected-over-time look.

Thanks so much to Holly and Chairish for asking me to participate.  I had a blast!

Beach House Bunk Rooms

Bunk rooms — a great use of space, perfect for several guests (or grandkids), and, of course, really pretty to look at!

I have two different types of vacation homes that I dream of — a beach home, and a mountain lodge.  But they both have a want (need!) for a bunk room in common.  Maybe one of these days I’ll show you my lodge house bunk room ideas.  🙂

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 12.06.17 AMHome Bunch

Clearly we’re starting off with one that is going to be hard to beat in the perfection category. I love that there are three levels to the bunks, and a really cute conversation area.  This is the perfect set-up for a grandkids bunk room, I think.  That chandelier doesn’t make me too upset, either.  😉

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 12.07.11 AMHome Adore

Quintessential red, white, and blue says ‘Summer!’ to me.  Those stairs leading up to the top bunk are adorable.  I wonder if they double as drawers?  Kind of looks like it.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 12.08.23 AMHome Adore

So technically these aren’t bunk beds, but they are beds on a platform and this room is stunning — I couldn’t not include it.  This looks like it could be an attic space, and I love the use of it.  No need for much storage with the built-in drawers and such.  And the color palette… nothing prettier.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 12.09.16 AMJoy Tribout Interior Design

That chandelier is perfect, I can’t get over it.  It literally steals the show.  I love the color palette in this room.  And the sisal carpet — perfect for sandy feet.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 12.10.22 AMM. Elle

Omg.  Hyperventilation ensues.  LOVE the drapes.  Definitely my favorite part.  The little windows in each bunk, the paneling, the adorable lighting… This is one of my favorite bunk room images.

Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 12.11.18 AMMy Home Ideas

Sometimes simplicity is best.  I really love this room, too.  Especially the red, white, and blue.
