Serving Up Fall Treats

Hey, guys!  I don’t know about you, but I have been using my kitchen a lot lately and it has been glorious.  🙂  I have been having the best time.  I’ve been baking, roasting, testing recipes — it’s one of my favorite parts about the season.  Today I have a round-up of Fall treats that look amazing, including some that we have tried and loved.

Pumpkin Coffee Cake with Brown Sugar Glaze

I made this a long time ago and still come back to it every year and think, I should make that again.  It’s SO good and makes plenty enough to share.

This pie is a labor of love but it is WORTH IT.  So yummy, and perfectly Fall.  I have only made it once, but I feel like this is truly Thanksgiving-worthy.  Maybe this will be what I bring!

Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes with Maple Cream Cheese Frosting

I brought these to a ‘lil dinner party a couple of weekends ago and they were ridiculously good.  I’ve even made another batch since then and left the icing off so that I could call them “muffins.”  😉  I added a little bit more cream cheese to the icing and reduced the powdered sugar a bit since I like my cream cheese frosting a little more tangy.  I also subbed banana for some of the pumpkin when I made these the second time — very delicious!

What are your favorite recipes for Fall?

Good morning, friends!  I hope you had a great weekend.

As temperatures drop and we ease deeper into Fall, I always find myself drawn to rooms with the perfect amount of cozy clutter.  Do you know what I mean by that?

Cozy Clutter {Details Blog}

House & Home

When rooms have textural elements added to them, or big fuzzy throw blankets, or plants galore, I feel cozy and warm inside.  It feels like Fall to me even without a single pumpkin in sight!

Better Homes & Gardens

These comfy elements are things that tell me…  Someone lives here, and loves being warm and cozy, too.  I love stacks of books and extra pillows, and when decor items are pulled out of storage to fill up a space just a little bit more.

There’s something so special about a room that looks lived in.  People who like to get cozy in their houses, and listen to Christmas music in November, and bake things in their cozy houses — those are my people.

Baskets are one of my favorite things to add around the house this time of year.  They provide warmth and lots of texture, and they’re great for holding all sorts of things!  Plants, blankets, books — Kuma even has a big one for all of his toys.  🙂  But that’s a year-round thing.  He likes to have a big toy selection…ha.

House Beautiful

This is the time of year for piles of big fluffy towels hot out of the dryer, and caddies for your favorite Fall scents and maybe even a flower or two in a small vase.  It’s also the time of year for brass or copper accents — those warm metals add a lot of coziness to a space.

Don’t huge collections of books look even better this time of year?  I think so.  🙂  This is the only time of year that I really love a stuffed bookshelf.  Forget breathing room — I want full and warm!

Do you collect anything?  Now is the time to bring your collections out and gather them together!  I have small collections of a few things, but the main thing that I love to bring out is my collection of silver.  I use it all over the house this time of the year.

Offbeat + Inspired

Hey, guys!  Happy November to you!

I can’t believe how fast this season is going by.  In an effort to be more present, I took a tiny step away from social media for a bit.  Sometimes I feel like the more time I spend on Instagram and blogging, the more inspired I feel; and other times, the more time I spend on the Internet, the more I get that ‘compare and despair’ feeling.  When I feel even an inkling of that anymore, I put the phone and the computer away and focus on being fully present — and there is power in that!

‘Tis the season of pretty, cozy things and warm spaces, and I had the best time staying up super late last night taking down our Halloween decor and putting up our Fall stuff.  I’m looking forward to sharing that soon.  🙂  Highland Yard Vintage has another show coming up in the next couple of weeks, and I can’t wait to see all of those beautiful, inspiring vignettes.  And of course my mom-in-law’s decor… that’s always a fun post!

We are just about to the one-year mark in our home and I still find myself loving it more and more every day.  I feel so blessed to be in the home that waited for us, and though the past year has had its fair share of struggles and heartache, it has been so wonderful to have a warm and cozy place to come home to every night.  To be together, with our little pup, eat dinner together, cozy up on the sofa together, cry together, and laugh together…  I will never be able to thank God enough for this past year in the cutest little 1,000 square foot house I’ve ever laid eyes on.  😉

I hope you all are having the best week as we ease our way into the Holiday season.  I’ll see you back here soon!

Our Halloween Decor

Hey there!  Get ready for picture overload because I am sharing our Halloween decor today…finally!  This post has been in the works for a while — the first batch of photos I took I wasn’t happy with, and then I moved some things around and zhushed some things anyway, so I’m glad I waited to share.  🙂

Welcome!  🙂

So, I really like how this vignette ended up turning out, but it took some time.  That web was more difficult to get “right” than I thought it would be!  It was tricky, but I think I learned some things for next time.  🙂  The spider is from Target, and I ended up gluing a small hair clip to the back of him so that I could clip him to the mirror and make it look like he was scurrying down.  I used E6000 — hot glue did not work, just FYI.  Much like my DIY Creepy Crawly Wreath.  The printable can be found here and I always like using a fun one in this frame.

This cloche is from Target, as well as the small skulls and the skeleton hand.  I added a bunch of moss and you should have seen me trying to get these skulls under here…  It was ridiculous, lol.

Our Halloween Decor {Details Blog}

I hot glued the spider (also from Target) onto the candle votive.  I thought I could sacrifice one in my collection in the name of permanent Halloween decor.  😉

Of course I had to decorate our trays on our coffee table that are a constant staple.  I was just thinking the other day that I may be ready to do something a little bit different here.  Maybe after Christmas…  I do love it, but kind of craving something fresh.

Our Halloween Decor {Details Blog}

This skull is from the Target Dollar Spot… I think it was $3?  It’s one of those easy little DIY paint projects, but I knew I wanted to keep it white.  I put black sand in the bottom so that it kind of looked like dirt, then layered the moss and placed the skull.  The spider is just an added creepy bonus.  😉

Cocktail napkins from HomeGoods, of course.  They have the best.

Our Halloween Decor {Details Blog}

Fun skull candles from HomeGoods, too.  I added a little bit of moss for extra spookiness.

The orange-y pillows felt like Fall to me.  The fabric is soft and cozy, too — they are great napping pillows!

Good morning, friends!  I hope you enjoyed your weekend.  Our li’l pup had surgery on Friday so it was a weekend where we were mostly at home besides a quick family trip to Dutch Bros.  😉

Halloween Floral Table Setting

Happy Friday!  I hope you’ve had a great week.  It’s been a super busy one for me and I am looking forward to the weekend.  I bet you are, too.  🙂

Halloween Floral Table Setting {Details Blog}

So let’s talk about this table setting…  The ceramic pumpkin has been sitting in the middle of our kitchen table, on top of that tray, with moss and creepy crawlies for the better part of two months.  Inside there is more moss, and three flameless candles that are really cool — they work off of a remote and you can change the color about twelve different ways.  A HomeGoods score, of course.

Halloween Floral Table Setting {Details Blog}

But this table really came together all because of some sad, dying flowers.  Yep.  I purchased some blooms from Sprouts during a grocery shopping trip a couple of weeks ago, and last weekend they were looking mighty d.e.a.d.  But I was actually super excited about their crispiness because I knew they would be the perfect addition to a table setting!  See the way my brain works?

Halloween Floral Table Setting {Details Blog}

So I totally celebrated their death and they were repurposed.  I used my vintage striped blue linens because I do think they look just as good during Fall as they do during Summer with seashells.  They’re transitional napkins…  Fancy.

Halloween Floral Table Setting {Details Blog}

The sunflower just got tucked in between the two plates.  I really like that everything on the table looks pretty dried out… it adds to the spookiness.  🙂

This was my Sunday puttering last weekend.  I love shopping my house for things — apparently even dead flowers, lol!  This little space is still making me happy.

I hope you have an awesome weekend!

Highland Yard Vintage {Harvest Home}

This past weekend I was swept away by another amazing Highland Yard Vintage show.  I have been going consistently for about a year and I have to say — this was my favorite one yet!

Highland Yard Vintage {Harvest Home} - Details Blog

It was warm outside, but that didn’t stop the seasonal celebration from raging on inside.  😉  This show was all about Fall pretties and Christmas inspiration.  YES — Christmas.  And I wasn’t mad about it at all.

This fake food was ridiculously convincing.  Even the bread was squishy — yep, I squished it.

Wood salvage pieces… I found these so intriguing!  All sorts of things could be done with these — add them to a wreath, to a vignette (great texture!).

I think this was my favorite table — copper just gets me.  😉  It’s those perfectly imperfect displays that speak to me!

I love the little stuff, too.  Crystals, stamps, little cards, Scrabble pieces, keys, dominos…

Cozying Up For Fall…With Tea

Hey friends, happy Monday to you!  I hope you had a great weekend.

Cozying Up For Fall...With Tea {Details Blog}

I’m in Fall nesting mode completely now — always kind of puttering around the house and adding things here, taking away things there, etc.  It’s my favorite thing.  🙂  I had some different types of tea that were in baggies and I thought I would “make pretty.”

Cozying Up For Fall...With Tea {Details Blog}

I love to get my teas from local places.  One of these is from the Queen Creek Olive Mill and a couple of the others are from my visits to Highland Yard Vintage.  There is an awesome couple who creates their own brews and sells them at the market and they are so so good.  I wish I could remember their name… I will get it for next time.

Cozying Up For Fall...With Tea {Details Blog}

This is just a scrolly mirror that I use for decor around the house.  I used mason jars for the tea and snipped the ‘to, from’ off of some gift tags to label and tape to the jar lids.  In the center I have my handy tea bag squeezer to strain the bags and looseleaf tea bags that I found at Sprouts.

Cozying Up For Fall...With Tea {Details Blog}

You’ve seen my espresso pod holder, which is really a ‘small bites’ caddy from Pottery Barn, and my li’l Duralex cups that I use for my espresso are underneath — still within easy reach.  But I’m trying to drink less coffee!  (I say that as I am on my third cup…)  But really.  Trying is the operative word here.  So I thought a pretty tea station would do the trick.  😉  I’ll keep you posted!

Have a great day, friends!

An Elegant Halloween Part 2

Happy Friday to you!  🙂  I hope you have fun weekend plans ahead.  I’ll be heading to Highland Yard Vintage for another Fall show and I can’t wait.  Of course I will have some photos to share of that soon!

I’m sharing the last bits and pieces of my in-laws’ Halloween decor today…

These are pinecones all the way from Lake Tahoe!  My mom-in-law and I each brought a bunch home from our trip over the summer.

These little creepy crawlies are from Target and are the same ones that I used for my DIY Creepy Crawly Wreath.  They are stuck to the candles with tiny brads that were painted black to match.  You can’t even see them.  🙂

An Elegant Halloween Part 1

These next couple of days I will be sharing my in-laws’ awesome Halloween decor.  My mom-in-law goes all out and I always get so excited to see the vignettes that she creates for pretty much every holiday or season.  She is where I get so much of my inspiration from.  🙂

I feel like my mom-in-law’s approach to Halloween decor is to make it spooky, but make it pretty.  There are a lot of items that she has on hand that she uses for all sorts of vignettes — vintage books, feathers, vase fillers, moss…  These are all items that are really versatile throughout any season.

I took a ton of pictures, so I’m breaking up the sharing into two posts.  Enjoy!
