Wishing you a beautiful day~! xx
In case you are still needing some inspiration for your Easter table (can you believe Easter is this weekend?!), I’ve got you covered. Wishing you a wonderful weekend full of joy and time spent with those you love. Happy Friday!

Last month, I shared what recipes we tried and enjoyed. I am no food photographer but I am a good cook! 😉 We’ve been trying to eat healthfully on most occasions (but that doesn’t mean there isn’t the occasional Sonic drive-thru/pizza night — gotta live a little!) and these recipes are making that easier because, well, they’re good! We don’t do non-fat, we don’t do diet-y, and we don’t sacrifice flavor for low-cal. There’s so much good food out there and we’re just trying to all-in-all make wise choices so we feel good. I’m at the point where I don’t care about the number on the scale, I just want to feel nourished and healthy.

Quick 5-Ingredient Tomato Sauce
Since we’re doing the low-/no-carb thing, spaghetti squash has become our jam. This tomato sauce is absolutely incredible — and it is very quick to come together. I squeezed in about a tablespoon of tomato paste to make it a little bit richer.

Spaghetti Squash with Bacon, Spinach, and Goat Cheese
Another great spaghetti squash recipe that was super satisfying. I used turkey bacon in lieu of regular bacon.

I think this is brilliant — using thinly-sliced jicama as your “tortilla” for shrimp tacos. This was a really quick recipe but I only used the shrimp portion from the how-to. I made this mango salsa and added four avocados to it, plus doubled the lime juice. It’s my go-to guacamole recipe now.

Baked Salmon with Parmesan Herb Crust
I really have never met a salmon recipe that I didn’t like, so this was a win for me. It’s tasty and very quick to throw together. My husband wasn’t crazy about it. He doesn’t love salmon (or fish at all, really) so while he thought it was good, it’s probably something that I will make for just me next time.

Speaking of my husband, he has become The Grill Master. 😉 He made these steak kebabs for us last week and they were so good. The marinade is (in order of quantity) soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, garlic, and onion powder. We had made a version of these a couple of weeks back from a recipe from a blogger, and they were crazy salty. Not good. His version is so much better. He put mushrooms, peppers, and zucchini on the skewers, too, and he makes a separate batch of marinade to brush on top of the kebabs while he’s grilling them.

This was just a random salad that I threw together that ended up being really good, so I thought I’d share. Chopped spinach, quartered cucumbers, one bell pepper, a little bit of red onion, chopped fresh dill (the most luxurious herb!), crushed red pepper flakes, red wine vinegar, one squeezed lemon, a drizzle of olive oil, salt and pepper. Something I always do when making salads — while you’re preparing, throw a bowl in the freezer so that you have an ice cold bowl when the salad is ready. It’s one of those things that I always do and it just makes every salad that much better.

Last week was exciting on the delivery front. Our crazy new rug came and then came the side tables for our bedroom!

We obviously quickly unwrapped them and then set them up in the bedroom.

They’re really pretty and perfect for the space. I didn’t realize until these were in the room how much the sides of the bed definitely need that negative space. So far they are a little bit difficult to keep perfectly clean (Shiba Inu during shedding season + Arizona DUST!) but I’m not worried about it. I dusted them on Saturday and gave them a wipe-down. Nothing in our house is super fussy so I’ll just clean these as-needed/once a week.
Our bed isn’t due to arrive until this week (hopefully!) but we decided to run over to HomeGoods to see if there were any pillows that we liked. I wrote about our initial design plan for the bedroom last week, but the pillows we picked out are not nearly what I had written about in the post. My sweet husband said he was a little bit confused by the post, because he didn’t think I liked pastels! 😉 I do, but we decided to go a different route with the fabrics.

We bought a white duvet cover that is really light and soft — we have been loving sleeping underneath it. I’m really excited to see these pillows with the headboard behind them.

We found these lamps while selecting the bedding and they are the perfect size — and heavy, too! I like that they sort of mimic the gold dots on the pillows. At the top of each there is a round crystal finial.

These definitely still have yet to be styled, and that will be a really fun adventure.

We’ve got a long way to go, but we are loving how this room is shaping up! 🙂
I have just a liiiitle living room update for ya today, but I’m here to tell you that this small addition makes the room. I was chatting with my mom-in-law at the brunch we hosted at our house a couple of weekends ago and I was telling her that the missing piece for our living room was the hide rug that I wanted to layer on top of the existing natural fiber rug. She asked me what color I was thinking, and I told her a beige-y neutral. At which point she looked at me and said… What about zebra?
Immediately I realized that a zebra rug was what this room needed to fully come together. I am so excited because it totally adds that splash of personality that this room was craving.

The rug that we ended up purchasing was just a little more than $100. I will say that when it was delivered and we unwrapped it, it smelled SO BAD. Like farm animal. There’s no other way to put it. I checked the reviews to see if anyone else experienced this but no one else reported it so I have no idea. After a few hours, the rug aired out and all was fine.
I’m really excited to start adding some blue and white pieces for the Summertime soon — and I may or may not have picked up a little something to start that off over the weekend. 😉

First let me just say that we are so blessed with two amazing families. To have family at our house is the most incredible gift, and not one that we take for granted. It feels so special to be making memories in our first house. The emotional aspect of that is not lost on us — we worked so hard for this, and our families had such a huge part that they played by supporting us to create opportunities for this to happen for us. Being homeowners is so huge for us…to the point that little annoyances like a slightly overgrown lawn or a bunch of dirty dishes after an elaborate meal for just the two of us raises reactions like, I’m so glad I have a lawn to MOW! – My husband, and We’re so blessed to be having dinner in our HOUSE! Can you believe we have a HOUSE?! — the dishes aren’t even noticed. We truly feel just completely overwhelmed at this point with our blessings. Our cups are overflowing, and we’re taking opportunities all day long to give the glory to God and thank Him for all of this.
To have our families at our house, to putter and nest, to fill our house with flowers and plants, to cozy up on the sofa together and watch movies, to occasionally have a pizza night in our pajamas… It’s a wonderful time. 🙂
So we invited our family for a Spring brunch, and we wanted to make it fun and festive. I made this egg casserole (so good), my mom-in-law made some lemon danish-type treats and a cinnamon roll French toast bake, and my sis-in-law brought this awesome fruit salad with blackberries, grapes, mandarin oranges, etc. — delicious. All yummy stuff. 🙂

Tabletop snacks included mini Cadbury eggs which are ridiculously addicting, and Trader Joe’s trail mix because it is seriously my favorite.

Not like our living room needed any more plants but I found the hydrangeas and the mini orchid at TJ’s and fell in love.

I set up a coffee bar on a table in our kitchen — that way everyone could get what they needed and I just stayed in charge of refilling the coffee pot. 😉

We had cranberry and orange juice at the ready and my in-laws brought over a bottle of champagne for mimosas. The straws were a little too long when I bought them so I just snipped the ends so that they would fit inside of the mason jars at a good height.

A blog that I love, A Thoughtful Place, was where I first saw the idea of using wrapping paper as a table runner. LOVE that idea so much and I’ve done it once before for a birthday party. It’s inexpensive and easy clean-up. It’s also fun to use that as a starting point for the table design. I decided to go with gold accents and those blue flowers were a Target Dollar Spot find. They have adhesive backs so I just stuck them where I wanted them and was able to save them for another purpose — they’re in a craft bin now.

Which brings me to the beads. 🙂 These were my Gramma’s, and I’ve used them here, too. I’ve been missing her a lot lately and these beads remind me of her. She loved to decorate and make spaces pretty, and she made everything special. She was a beautiful entertainer and I can still remember her putting fresh mint in lemonade and letting me pull the leaves from the stems. Having this little pop of red added a splash of personality to the table — and reminded me of her wild and free personality that I loved so much.

If there’s one room that is the most undecorated of all in our house, it’s our bedroom…and that’s just not right! I actually think it’s kind of funny because when we bought our house, I swore up and down that the bedroom would be the first room we would work on, but…yeah. That didn’t happen. We’re ready to get moving on this project, taking our time, but alert the media!— We ordered our bed and side tables last week! That was a pretty exciting day.
So let’s talk about color palette first. I am basically undecided at this point. I know that I want to continue the neutral palette of our house in our bedroom — it has been super easy to switch things around in our living room and I want the same for this space. If I want a new look, I want it to be as simple as buying/making some new pillows, you know? I am kind of perpetually moving things around and nesting, puttering, etc. My husband knows that when he leaves for work in the morning, there is a very strong possibility that when he gets home, multiple things will be different around the house, lol. My point is that I want flexibility.

So you kind of see where I’m going here… I’m not opposed to color, but I want those colors to be muted with white undertones, almost like pastels. It’s important to me that this room is really relaxing and not “pop-y” — at least for now. And that’s the beauty of the way we’re doing this — if in a year I change my mind, I can just switch out the accessories.

This is the view when you walk into the room. Yes, we’ve been sleeping on a mattress for four months, lol. Making the bed every day helped it to feel more like a bedroom. A little bit… 😉

This is the bed we bought and we will each have a set of these nesting lucite tables next to the sides of the bed. I’m really excited about these — I’m all about negative space and these will allow us to have a lot of things on each side of the bed without having the visual bulk of a solid nightstand.

This is a bit more styled than I will probably have our tables, but you get the idea.

This is how we will dress our two windows on either side of the bed, much like we did in our living room. I’m thinking we’ll keep the drapes cream but I may add some kind of banding to them eventually — wouldn’t a light-colored Greek key be so pretty?

Above our bed I’m thinking we’ll do three sunburst mirrors like this. I’ve had a picture of something like this on my inspiration board in our office for a couple of months. I’m thinking HomeGoods will be a good resource for this — I’ve checked some of the catalogs I get and $$$$$.

Honestly, I don’t love the mirrored closet doors, but the room is small and the doors do wonders for making the room feel larger than it actually is. The closet is surprisingly big for a reach-in and spans the entire length of the wall, even though Grey and I have to use separate closets lol. #girlproblems On the left side there is a small area that could accommodate a chair. I would love a place to put my shoes on and I’m thinking something sort of traditional, like a French-inspired piece.

This wall has given me pause because it is so big but there really won’t be space to have anything sticking out, like an etagere, etc. My in-laws were over at our house on Sunday and I asked my mom-in-law about what she thought — she has an incredible eye for design. She mentioned that Ikea has inexpensive frames — white ones! — with matting, and presented the idea of framing coordinating wrapping paper pieces in those frames, which I think is perfect. They’ll be easy to change out, will take up a lot of space, and it won’t be expensive.

We’ll do a grouping of probably eight large frames — four on top, four on the bottom. I’ll probably pick out two different papers to coordinate, possibly three.

This corner will get a little update, too. That framed print is something my Gramma always told me was going to be mine when I was little, and for a special reason. I want to get a better frame for it, and change out the hardware on the dresser, which is something my dad built for me before I was born. I’m thinking something like this:

A bunch of decisions at this point are sort of riding on two questions — What exact color will the bed be? and What color are the nailheads? Everything looks different in pictures, you know? This is a project we’ll be working on and I’m excited to have another room to start decorating!
Thanks so much for following along. 🙂
A couple of weeks ago when we took our trip to Ikea, we came home with a new chair and I moved some of our furniture around to accommodate the space for that. A week after that, I spotted the perfect side table at HomeGoods, and it came home with me to make our little nest seating area in the living room complete.
When I got home with the table and put it where I thought it was going to go — next to the new chair — it was all wrong.

This is the space before I brought the side table in. The new table is a square, and next to that sort of boxy-shaped chair, with the right-angled entertainment center, and all of the other sharp angles in this vignette, it just didn’t look right. This got me thinking that a post might be in order about balancing curves and lines…and there really is no formula for this. You just want to have some of each.

This is that same corner now. The curvy ghost chair works better with that side table than the other lucite chair did, and then I moved the bench to the other side of the entertainment center to add even just another element of curve to this area. The basket is a round shape, but the pillows inside are squares. This corner has a healthy balance of curves and lines.

This corner is more balanced now, too. The chair back and seat are square in nature, but they do have some fluidity to their shape. The bench is now behind the chair, but that side table gives a good dose of curvature.

Take a look around this vignette and spot the curves and lines. There’s some of both — and that’s what makes a room look put together and allows it to flow. This is where I very strongly recommend not selecting a furniture set with matching chairs and sofa, entertainment center, side tables, etc. — you lose all of your control that way to choose things that work better together. Plus it’s more fun to find things piece by piece and create a more collected-over-time look, right?
Hey there, everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. Ours was full of family time and that’s pretty much the best way to spend a weekend, yes?
There’s some fun new stuff at our house that I’ve been excited to share. Just little bits and pieces that are making our space come together the way I hoped it would.

This little table was on deep dark dirty discount at HomeGoods — it was $22! I knew that I wanted a side table for our new chair, just to kind of balance the room out, but I had to play a game of musical furniture to figure out the room (more on that tomorrow).

It’s really small, and I feel like that’s what’s so great about it. It’s petite but can still hold a sizable bouquet of flowers or an appetizer plate.

I moved these pillows outside onto our bench. Eventually I would love to get another seat cushion for this — this one is kind of worn and pretty dirty. This bench is special to me, though — it was in my Gramma’s apartment before she passed away last year and she loved to sit on it. I love having it in our yard!

Our new Spring wreath. I had planned on making one but I just haven’t had the time lately and I wanted something on my naked door. 😉 It’s from HomeGoods.

The succulent that was in this little bowl was very, very dead. But you wouldn’t know because I avoided having it in the frame of any of my photos! 😉 I was so excited to find this drapey succulent at Home Depot…I went there with a picture in my head of what I wanted to find, and they had just what I pictured! I love when that happens.

New lamp and framed art. The lamp is from Target and I will tell you that it looks really nice up close. The light it gives off is very bright, too, so it’s perfect for task lighting. The art is, where else, a HomeGoods find, and my husband was the one who found it because he’s awesome. It really complements the colors in the room, and I love how the metal finishes of the art and the lamp look together.
I hope you have a great Monday!
