A Sentimental Spring Table Setting

Hey there, friends.  I hope you’re gearing up for a fun weekend.  You can find me busy baking and cooking today in preparation for some goodies I’m bringing to our Easter celebration at my in-laws’ house on Sunday.  It’s one of my favorite days of the year with them and I can’t wait!

So let me just tell you…  I have an amazing friend who I met in design school several years ago who has made such a huge impact on me.  She’s made me feel more confident in my skin, she’s helped me find direction when I was struggling, she’s one of my mentors and one of my biggest cheerleaders.  Basically, she is incredible and means so much to me.

A couple of years ago she gave me the most incredible gift… a set of Limoges china that was her mother’s.  Now, when Grey and I were married, we didn’t register for china.  I wanted to, but I couldn’t decide upon anything that I wanted.  Plus when we got married I was twenty-one and thought that it was pretty likely that whatever I picked out in my early twenties I wouldn’t really be in love with later on in my life.  And I was probably right — over time, my tastes have developed, my style has been honed in, and I know that it will continue to do so as I get older.

I couldn’t believe it when she gave this to me.  The pattern is simple — roses.  They remind me of a watercolor painting.

Two years in a row now, during the Spring and Summer months, we pull these dishes out and they are a sweet reminder of friendship, gratitude, love, and happy happy times.

The rosemary is from my sis-in-law’s backyard.  After I tucked these sprigs in, my hands smelled so good.  🙂  You could also smell the deliciousness radiating from the table itself.  It was kind of magical.

The ticking stripe “runner” is actually just a piece of fabric that I have folded right now.  Maybe someday I’ll sew it, maybe not.  🙂  I knew I wanted a bigger black and white print for the napkins, and these buffalo check ones are such nice quality and were exactly what I needed to pair perfectly with the floral plates.

I took these photos at nine o’clock in the morning and the sun was shining in so peacefully.  It’s moments like these that I breathe in that sweetness of joy and savor every moment of it.

Happy Easter to you — I hope you have a beautiful weekend!

Vintage Trophy Find

For the past long while, I have been on the hunt at every vintage store or market event for the perfect vintage trophy.  No easy feat!  Either they were too pricey, or the patina wasn’t great, or there was a strange inscription.  But a couple of weekends ago at Highland Yard Vintage, I found one tucked away that had to come home with me.

I love this little arrangement.  🙂  This table houses so many of my vintage treasures.  And my new trophy is really a trophy of the perfect find!

Wouldn’t a little tree look so cute in here for Christmas?  Already scheming for holidays ahead…because thats what I do.  😉

What treasures have found you lately?

Our New Blanket Ladder

Hey, friends!  I hope you’ve had a great morning so far.  Temps are starting to warm up here which means we’re really gettin’ into Spring.  I’m thinking I may need to plan some kind of Spring brunch or something before it gets too hot to be outside!  😉

My mom-in-law recently purchased a blanket ladder and upon seeing it I loved it so much!  I never thought I would have one in our home because the only ones that I had seen were really, really rustic and our house is not rustic at all.  I always appreciated the way they looked in farmhouse- or southwest-style spaces but could never picture one for us.  But then I saw my mom-in-law’s!  I went home that night and noticed that the wall that our TV is on would be the perfect spot for one of those ladders.

I searched on Kirkland’s and this one came up — I loved it even online and was so excited because the wood looked like it would be perfect with the other wood tones in this room.  And they are!  It’s sort of a cool taupe-gray much like our entertainment center and storage cabinet.

Our New Blanket Ladder {Details Blog}

I downloaded the Kirkland’s app on my phone (thanks to the recommendation from my mom-in-law!) and every day they have a ‘Spin It to Win It’ coupon where you can get a coupon that is good for that day only.  Kinda fun!  The day I purchased the ladder I had a 20% off coupon to use.

Our New Blanket Ladder {Details Blog}

I also plopped our little plant in the corner in a basket from HomeGoods.  This basket used to hold Kuma’s toys but it was a little tall for him and I noticed he wasn’t grabbing anything other than his Lambchops toy, which was on top.  😉

Our New Blanket Ladder {Details Blog}

I’m still undecided as to whether or not this will be the plant’s ‘forever basket’ (knowing me — probably not, ha!) but for now it’s working out.  I saved the base so I can always put it back the way it was.  I was just a little tired of looking at how orange the wood had turned!  A simple fix would be staining it, and I’m sure someday I’ll do that.  But for now…

Have a great rest of your day!

Spring Home Tour

Happy Monday!  I hope your weekend was a wonderful one.  I’m inviting you into our home this morning for a little tour of our Spring decor.  🙂  Grab a cup of coffee and come on in!

Last week I shared about the easy DIY wreath I created for our front door.  It’s still goin’ strong!

Spring Home Tour {Details Blog}

This time of year our house is so bright and I just love it and live for it.  It can get a little warm sometimes but I don’t care — those windows stay wide open all day long.

I wrote about our coffee table centerpiece a few weeks ago — still crazy about that faux fern score from Target!

That lamp is a relatively new HomeGoods find.  I wanted something a little taller, a little bigger, and a little more cheerful than the brass one that was there before (which has been relocated to our kitchen — always musical lamps around here, ha!).

The fun bunny banner is back again this year.  I found this at the Target Dollar Spot a few years ago.  I used it in our home last year and also when we lived at my in-laws’ house.  We’ve gotten good use out of it.

Did you know that the Dollar Store sells packages of moss?  The days of me buying a $5 bag of moss at a craft store are over — $1 is my new jam.  The bags aren’t small, either.  Just passing that along.  This nest came in a pack of two at Hobby Lobby (similar).  The little dish is actually the bottom of a cloche that came from one of my trips to Highland Yard Vintage.

Our kitchen has been infused with a little bit of Spring, too.  I looked around at Hobby Lobby for a black and white ticking stripe runner and couldn’t find anything but blue and white (which was also really cute, but not the color I wanted).  So it was off to the fabric department where I found the perfect fabric thanks to my sweet hubby who spotted it.

I haven’t hemmed it, and who knows, maybe I never will — right now it’s folded and I’m good with it.  The napkins are vintage and I recently switched out our plates for these simpler square ones from when we got married.

These glass squares are so cool and my mom-in-law brought them back for me from a trip to Washington.  She also brought the faux succulents back, too.  I filled the squares with rubber mulch, layered some stones on top, and then nestled the succulent in.

Simple DIY Spring Easter Wreath

Hey there — welcome to Wednesday.  😉  I hope the day is treating you well.

Last month, I purchased a faux boxwood wreath for our front door on Amazon, and I would link it here, but it has been discontinued!  There are tons of other options on Amazon for this type of wreath, though, so if you’re in the market for one, just search ‘faux boxwood wreath’ and lots will come up.  I’m so excited to use it all throughout Spring and Summer and change it up a little bit for each season.

It’s pretty just as-is, but I had big plans for it for Spring and Easter!

Pottery Barn

I was inspired by this wreath that I saw in a Pottery Barn catalog — I love that cute nest with the eggs!

Simple DIY Spring Easter Wreath {Details Blog}

Isn’t it fun?  I love how it turned out.  🙂  And it took me all of ten minutes.  Gotta love that, too.

Simple DIY Spring Easter Wreath {Details Blog}

Originally I was planning on making the nest, but then I saw this one at Hobby Lobby and I realized that I couldn’t recreate this for less than the $2.99 price tag.  The bow was a nice little surprise as I didn’t initially plan on using it (honestly, I didn’t even notice it on the packaging!), but I wired that into the wreath as well.

The ‘Happy Easter’ sign is from the Target Dollar Spot last year and I did the same thing with our former Spring wreath that I have since donated.

Simple DIY Spring Easter Wreath {Details Blog}

Target usually has signs like these for each season.  They come on a string and so I just hung the string on our command hook that holds our wreath, then hung the wreath and pulled the sign through.  It requires a little bit of messing with it, but it’s super easy.

I’m so happy with how it turned out.  Makes me smile to see it.  😉  After Easter, I’ll take the sign down and this little wreath will take us through May!

Do you have a Spring wreath for your front door?  Do you like to make them or buy them?  Or semi-make them like me?  😉

Elevating a Simple Gift

Hey, friends!  Happy Monday to you!  I hope you had a great weekend.  🙂

I stayed up late on Friday night and had so much fun putting up our Spring decorations.  I’ve had the bin pulled down since the beginning of the month but it’s taken me some time to feel like I was in the mood.  Because you’ve gotta be in the mood for that kind of thing to make it fun, right?!  Anyway, I’m super excited to share that with you soon — I took photos on Saturday.  I went pretty simple this year and didn’t purchase very much — I was really just going for small touches here and there to make it feel festive.

I wanted to share a little way that I elevate a simple gift that I give out to friends and family all the time.  I always have bananas that are going bad — we can never eat them fast enough, lol!  Some weeks I freeze them for smoothie bowls, and other weeks I make a couple loaves of banana bread.  If I’m seeing anyone — friend or family — around that time, I give the bread as a little gift for no particular reason.  It’s easy to make a double batch of the bread and people always appreciate it.

Elevating a Simple Gift {Details Blog}

Of course I’m a sucker for pretty gift wrapping and packaging the loaves in a cute way is just a nice way to elevate the experience a bit.  I always have a bunch of fun wrapping paper on-hand (thank you, HomeGoods!) and I have a ribbon problem and buy anything I think is adorable, lol.  I just wrap up the loaves in plastic wrap and then cut a piece of wrapping paper large enough to wrap around the loaf.  Sometimes I use regular ol’ tape, and sometimes I use some kind of sticker.  I love these gold seals from PaperSource and use them for everything!  Then I just tie the ribbon around in any configuration that floats my boat.

Elevating a Simple Gift {Details Blog}

This is perfect for hostess gifts and just-because gifts.  A very small and simple way of loving on someone and showing you care.  🙂  Something homemade is always special to me.  It means a lot to me that someone would prepare something in their kitchen for me — gives me the warm and fuzzies.

I hope you have a great rest of your Monday!

Spring As a Feeling

Welcome to March!  🙂  I, for one, am super excited to see the Spring months on the horizon.  I think second to Fall, Spring is my favorite.  This year especially I feel really refreshed, revitalized, and renewed.  I’m really leaning in to the search for inspiration everywhere and it’s been making me live with more intention and gratitude since the New Year began.  I’m very thankful for that.

Spring as a feeling…  Organized spaces, easy breezy outfits, lots of greenery and flowers, of course.  I’m looking forward to beginning some Spring cleaning at our house over the coming weeks, putting up our Spring decor and implementing some fun ideas I’ve had swirling around in my head, and basking in the wonderful weather before the start of Summer.  This is what Spring feels like to me…

Just A Little Flower Tip…

Hey, friends.  How’s your week going so far?  It appears that I have come down with some kind of bug!  I’m hoping it doesn’t last long.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.

I wanted to share a little tip for “flower arranging” — and I use that term loosely because I am no expert arranger.  😉 (You all can go follow my amazing cousin, Haleigh, for that!).  But there’s a tried and true vessel that I use for my weekly Trader Joe’s blooms that I wanted to share.

Just A Little Flower Tip... {Details Blog}

Meet the new and improved vase — the apothecary jar!

Just A Little Flower Tip... {Details Blog}

You can find these pretty much anywhere.  I purchased the one on the left at HomeGoods a long time ago and the one on the right from a thrift store.  I just take the lids off and snip the flowers to my desired length, then plop ’em in.

Just A Little Flower Tip... {Details Blog}

I think these work so well because the vessels themselves usually have some height due to the decorative bases, and the neck typically is a little more constricting than the bulk of it so there’s room for the flowers to kind of set in and flute out naturally.  They are also really inexpensive.

Just A Little Flower Tip... {Details Blog}

As for keeping my flowers fresh, I change the water about mid-week, and add a hefty handful of ice cubes each morning when I’m going around the house picking up a bit.  I especially love tulips because they grow while they are in the water!  They’re so lively and vibrant — they make me so happy.  🙂

What are your tried and true flower tips / tricks?

Faux Fern Vignette

We are almost to Fri-yay!  😉  Have anything fun planned?  We have time with family in the books and a little day date on Sunday that I’m really looking forward to.  Bring on the weekend party time!  And by party time I mean lots of time spent in my pajamas.

Okay…so we need to talk about a faux fern that I love…and before it’s too late for you to go get one for yourself!  I was tipped off by Sherry @ Young House Love about these fake ferns from Target, and the other day while I was perusing the aisles of home stuff, I saw one and grabbed it!

Faux Fern Vignette {Details Blog}

Isn’t it so cute?!  I love that it is potted in a pretty lil white bowl, and the size of it is good!  It is not a small arrangement.  It is a very convincing fake — the person ringing up my items thought it was real before she touched it and was all, “Oh!  That’s not real!”  Further confirming my need to bring it home with me.  😉

Faux Fern Vignette {Details Blog}

I have had those two hurricanes sitting on the coffee table for over a month with nothing but the candles in them — not even the sand.  They’ve been kinda crooked in there, lol.  But I was just waiting for the perfect idea to strike…  That’s usually how my ideas come — all at once.

Faux Fern Vignette {Details Blog}

This tray was a find during my last trip to Sweet Salvage.  Now, usually trays this size are in the $40 range even though they are silver plated.  I won’t pay that.  But this one was marked $16.  It was very dirty and needed a good wipe-down, but I loved the patina on it.  I’m not someone who polishes my silver…maybe every once in a blue moon.  I love the natural patina that it gets and I kind of get a weird thrill over seeing how the metal ages and changes.  Anyway, a great find and it’s in a shape that I don’t already have.

Faux Fern Vignette {Details Blog}

Plop goes the fern.  Most times when putting together a vignette it’s best to start with your biggest item first.  And trays are awesome for vignettes — they’re the anchor.

Faux Fern Vignette {Details Blog}

Faux Fern Vignette {Details Blog}

Originally I had these hurricanes switched around but I quickly realized I liked this staggered look better.  There’s a certain ‘click’ I get in my brain when something just feels right, and this gave me that click.  That click is my jam.

Faux Fern Vignette {Details Blog}

And that, my friends, is the story of the faux fern find of a lifetime.  😉

Happy weekend to you!

Pretty Little Front Door

Hey there, friends!  How’s your Wednesday going?

I mentioned yesterday that I purchased a little something new for our front door, and today’s the day I’m going to show you!

Pretty Little Front Door {Details Blog}

After wanting a faux boxwood wreath for over a year, I finally have one!  And I’m so excited about it.  🙂

Pretty Little Front Door {Details Blog}

I purchased mine from Amazon after having a really hard time finding what I was looking for in stores.  Everything either looked way too cheap or was out of my price range.  I had a $25 Amazon gift card to use and so I applied it to this wreath, which was out of my price range, too, but with the gift card I could swing it.

Pretty Little Front Door {Details Blog}

The quality is really amazing…  This is a wreath we will have for years to come so that justified the price for me.  The greenery on it is super lush and dense.  There is a grapevine base on the back but it is not visible from the front or even the sides of the wreath — it’s that hairy!  😉  It arrived in a really nice white box with a flip-top lid and I’ll use that to store it during the months it isn’t on our door.

Pretty Little Front Door {Details Blog}

The wreath looks so cute with the gardenias that we planted a few weeks ago.  This sweet little plant hasn’t bloomed yet but there are finally buds on it that have appeared and I’m so excited.  I’ve been trying to take really good care of it and it’s so fun to see that I’m keeping it healthy.  If you like the planter, you can find that here.

But as for the wreath…  I’m planning on using it for Spring and Summer.  Last Summer my mom-in-law had a boxwood wreath that she used throughout the Spring and Summer months and I love what she did for the Summer season…

Pretty Little Front Door {Details Blog}

I’m planning on doing something similar with mine.  She just wired those lil starfish in!  Brilliant.  🙂

Pretty Little Front Door {Details Blog}

Pottery Barn

In a couple of weeks when we really get into Spring, I am going to make a little nest arrangement like the one on this Pottery Barn wreath and add it to my wreath.  I’ll keep ya posted!

Do you guys typically make or buy a wreath for Spring?  I’m loving that this one is going to pull double-duty for me!

Have a great rest of your day!
