Last month, I purchased a faux boxwood wreath for our front door on Amazon, and I would link it here, but it has been discontinued!  There are tons of other options on Amazon for this type of wreath, though, so if you’re in the market for one, just search ‘faux boxwood wreath’ and lots will come up.  I’m so excited to use it all throughout Spring and Summer and change it up a little bit for each season.

It’s pretty just as-is, but I had big plans for it for Spring and Easter!

Pottery Barn 

I was inspired by this wreath that I saw in a Pottery Barn catalog — I love that cute nest with the eggs!

Isn’t it fun?  I love how it turned out.  🙂  And it took me all of ten minutes.  Gotta love that, too.

Originally I was planning on making the nest, but then I saw this one at Hobby Lobby and I realized that I couldn’t recreate this for less than the $2.99 price tag.  The bow was a nice little surprise as I didn’t initially plan on using it (honestly, I didn’t even notice it on the packaging!), but I wired that into the wreath as well.

The ‘Happy Easter’ sign is from the Target Dollar Spot last year and I did the same thing with our former Spring wreath that I have since donated.

Target usually has signs like these for each season.  They come on a string and so I just hung the string on our command hook that holds our wreath, then hung the wreath and pulled the sign through.  It requires a little bit of messing with it, but it’s super easy.

I’m so happy with how it turned out.  Makes me smile to see it.  😉  After Easter, I’ll take the sign down and this little wreath will take us through May!

Hey, friends.  How’s your week going so far?  It appears that I have come down with some kind of bug!  I’m hoping it doesn’t last long.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.

I wanted to share a little tip for “flower arranging” — and I use that term loosely because I am no expert arranger.  😉 (You all can go follow my amazing cousin, Haleigh, for that!).  But there’s a tried and true vessel that I use for my weekly Trader Joe’s blooms that I wanted to share.

Meet the new and improved vase — the apothecary jar!

You can find these pretty much anywhere.  I purchased the one on the left at HomeGoods a long time ago and the one on the right from a thrift store.  I just take the lids off and snip the flowers to my desired length, then plop ’em in.

I think these work so well because the vessels themselves usually have some height due to the decorative bases, and the neck typically is a little more constricting than the bulk of it so there’s room for the flowers to kind of set in and flute out naturally.  They are also really inexpensive.

As for keeping my flowers fresh, I change the water about mid-week, and add a hefty handful of ice cubes each morning when I’m going around the house picking up a bit.  I especially love tulips because they grow while they are in the water!  They’re so lively and vibrant — they make me so happy.  🙂

What are your tried and true flower tips / tricks?

We are almost to Fri-yay!  😉  Have anything fun planned?  We have time with family in the books and a little day date on Sunday that I’m really looking forward to.  Bring on the weekend party time!  And by party time I mean lots of time spent in my pajamas.

Okay…so we need to talk about a faux fern that I love…and before it’s too late for you to go get one for yourself!  I was tipped off by Sherry @ Young House Love about these fake ferns from Target, and the other day while I was perusing the aisles of home stuff, I saw one and grabbed it!

Isn’t it so cute?!  I love that it is potted in a pretty lil white bowl, and the size of it is good!  It is not a small arrangement.  It is a very convincing fake — the person ringing up my items thought it was real before she touched it and was all, “Oh!  That’s not real!”  Further confirming my need to bring it home with me.  😉

I have had those two hurricanes sitting on the coffee table for over a month with nothing but the candles in them — not even the sand.  They’ve been kinda crooked in there, lol.  But I was just waiting for the perfect idea to strike…  That’s usually how my ideas come — all at once.

This tray was a find during my last trip to Sweet Salvage.  Now, usually trays this size are in the $40 range even though they are silver plated.  I won’t pay that.  But this one was marked $16.  It was very dirty and needed a good wipe-down, but I loved the patina on it.  I’m not someone who polishes my silver…maybe every once in a blue moon.  I love the natural patina that it gets and I kind of get a weird thrill over seeing how the metal ages and changes.  Anyway, a great find and it’s in a shape that I don’t already have.

Plop goes the fern.  Most times when putting together a vignette it’s best to start with your biggest item first.  And trays are awesome for vignettes — they’re the anchor.

Originally I had these hurricanes switched around but I quickly realized I liked this staggered look better.  There’s a certain ‘click’ I get in my brain when something just feels right, and this gave me that click.  That click is my jam.

And that, my friends, is the story of the faux fern find of a lifetime.  😉

Hey there, friends!  How’s your Wednesday going?

I mentioned yesterday that I purchased a little something new for our front door, and today’s the day I’m going to show you!

After wanting a faux boxwood wreath for over a year, I finally have one!  And I’m so excited about it.  🙂

I purchased mine from Amazon after having a really hard time finding what I was looking for in stores.  Everything either looked way too cheap or was out of my price range.  I had a $25 Amazon gift card to use and so I applied it to this wreath, which was out of my price range, too, but with the gift card I could swing it.

The quality is really amazing…  This is a wreath we will have for years to come so that justified the price for me.  The greenery on it is super lush and dense.  There is a grapevine base on the back but it is not visible from the front or even the sides of the wreath — it’s that hairy!  😉  It arrived in a really nice white box with a flip-top lid and I’ll use that to store it during the months it isn’t on our door.

The wreath looks so cute with the gardenias that we planted a few weeks ago.  This sweet little plant hasn’t bloomed yet but there are finally buds on it that have appeared and I’m so excited.  I’ve been trying to take really good care of it and it’s so fun to see that I’m keeping it healthy.  If you like the planter, you can find that here.

But as for the wreath…  I’m planning on using it for Spring and Summer.  Last Summer my mom-in-law had a boxwood wreath that she used throughout the Spring and Summer months and I love what she did for the Summer season…

I’m planning on doing something similar with mine.  She just wired those lil starfish in!  Brilliant.  🙂

Pottery Barn

In a couple of weeks when we really get into Spring, I am going to make a little nest arrangement like the one on this Pottery Barn wreath and add it to my wreath.  I’ll keep ya posted!

Do you guys typically make or buy a wreath for Spring?  I’m loving that this one is going to pull double-duty for me!
